School packed lunch offer in preparation for universal free schools’ meals in September 2023

From September 2023, every primary pupil in the London Boroughs will be eligible for complementary school meals.

This was announced by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, as a cost of living support measure. As a result, Chartwells, our school caterer, will now provide hot or cold school lunches for all our children starting from September 2023.

We know that some children, particularly in KS2, enjoy having a packed lunch from home, however we would encourage all families to take up the offer of free school meals, which from September, could save families around £440 per child.

To encourage more children to get used to the idea of eating a school meal each day, we will be trialling and providing a ‘school packed lunch’ offer alongside our hot meals from after half-term. Please see below for the details of what the children will be offered with this cold lunch.

Initially, the school packed lunch will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and this will increase to each day in the new academic year. All children who currently have school dinners will be able to select this option on these days. We hope that children who currently have packed lunches will be glad to see this cold option, alongside the hot, and that it will encourage them to be happy to take up school meals in September.
