We are having on a special lunch called 'Class 23 Lunch' on Thursday 6th July 2023.

If your child usually has school dinners, this will remain the same. However, if your child usually has packed lunch and you would like them to have the 'Special Theme Lunch, please let the school office know.

The meal will cost the usual price of £2.41 per child per day, for Years 3 to 6, and is payable under the School Dinner payment option in your Arbor app *If you require assistance setting up your Arbor account, please contact the school office.

Woodhill Iftar Event - Thursday 30th March

As many of you may know, the month of Ramadan is due to start on either 23^rd or 24^th March this year, depending on the sighting of the new moon. Ramadan is a time when many Muslims around the world, including lots of families at Woodhill, will fast from sunrise until sunset every day. We are delighted to announce that Woodhill will be hosting an iftar gathering on Thursday 30^th March from 6.45 – 9pm. Iftar is the name of the meal that Muslims have at sunset to break the fast.

We would like to invite all of our Woodhill families, of all faiths and none, fasting or not, to join us for this very special event. Dates (the fruit!) and drinks will be provided, but we would like to ask that every family who attends please bring a dish to share. We would ask that on this occasion, any food donated should be either suitable for vegetarians or halal.

Coffee Morning - Wednesday 8th March 2023

We have coffee morning on Wednesday 08th March at 9am - we are selling the last of the uniform we have (brand new) for £5 & less and also re-uniform for 50p a item.

Kevin McBrien from the Clockhouse in Woolwich Dockyard will be attending the coffee morning to speak to parents regarding the services they offer i.e. Advice Hub which offers free advice on Welfare benefits, housing, energy/utility advice and immigration advice. They also have free food collection.

World Book Day - 1st March 2023

Books and Breakfast will be taking place in the bottom hall on this day from 8.30am. This is an opportunity for carers to have a delicious breakfast and share a book with their children! We will also be holding a special themed ‘World Book Day lunch menu’ if your child is normally a packed lunch and would like a special lunch please let the school office know by Friday 24th February, Menu is attached.

Winter Class Party

Thursday 15th December will be our Woodhill Winter Party day! Each class will host their own party in their classrooms. Children can bring their party clothes to school in a separate bag to change into and we would really appreciate if they could bring a party food donation for their party. (This needs to be wrapped snacks e.g. mini rolls, crisps, chocolate biscuits) There will be party games and music to celebrate the end of term in the afternoon

Free meals for kids during school holidays

The council is ensuring that regular meals are available for all children and young people within the borough during school holidays. Food is served at multiple locations across the borough, and there's no age limit for children, meaning that nutritious meals are readily available and families continue to receive support outside of school term time. Meals are available throughout October half-term. just turn up and tuck in!

Polio Virus Outbreak

As you are aware there is an outbreak of the polio virus in our sewage system, which can cause paralysis. This is a public health concern. Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust are carrying out clinics in the community for Polio boosters for any child who lives in the Greenwich area.

The Dog Mentor

We are pleased to announce that we will be introducing our own school dog who has joined The Dog Mentor Programme. The Dog Mentor programme has built upon the benefits of the human-animal bond by providing children positive experiences with dogs that can help them educationally, developmentally, emotionally and socially.

Over the last nine years, The Dog Mentor programme has been proven to have a positive impact on children in all areas including self-esteem, behaviour, peer relationships and better engagement skills. These improvements then result in improved academic achievement.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Monday 19th September has been confirmed as the date for her funeral. This will be a bank holiday enabling everyone to pay their respects in their own way. Therefore, our school will be closed on this date.

School Dinner Reduction

We are pleased to inform you that the negotiation of a new contract with our current meal suppliers, Chartwell, has meant that we are able to reduce the cost of a school dinner to £2.10 per day (£10.50 a week) from September 2022.

Bring a bottle & in return wear your own clothes

As part of our organisation for our Woodhill Summer Fayre on Friday 8th July, we are asking all families to donate something in a bottle! Please can you send your child to school on Friday 1st July with anything you may have at home, such as bottles of wine, fizzy drinks, unopened toiletries and any other items that could be used as part of the raffle and tombola. All children that bring in a donation will be invited to wear their own clothes for the day. We look forward to receiving your donations and to making our Summer Fayre a great success

Hot Weather

As you may know, we are expecting some very hot temperatures this week. You can help to ensure that your child is safe and able to enjoy the good weather by doing the following: 1. Put suntan lotion on your child in the morning, 2.Give them a sun hat to wear at break and lunchtimes to protect them from the heat and from getting sunburnt; and 3. Give them a bottle of water to take with them to school and keep topped up with water throughout the day.

We are asking for lots of volunteers, helpers and support to put this event together.

Bexley Selection Test information for current Year 5 children

To be considered for a place at a grammar school within the London Borough of Bexley, your child must achieve the selective standard in the selection test held at the beginning of Year 6

This leaflet tells you about the test that will be held in September 2022, for children born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012, who will transfer to secondary school in September 2023. If you register your child for the Bexley selection test, it will be considered that you have understood and accepted all the information in this leaflet.
