Parent Governor Position available

I am writing to invite you to consider standing for election as a Parent Governor for Woodhill Primary School, or to nominate another parent to do so.

We know that working in partnership with parents is critical to the success of our children, and one of the ways in which you can help promote home-school relationships is through becoming a parent governor at our fantastic school.

Together with the Head of School, the Governing Body has overall responsibility for the running of the school. Governing Bodies have three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

No special qualifications are needed, the most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the Governing Body’s work. Training is available for all Governors and our Governing Body has an expectation that those new to being a Governor attend the free induction training, plus further training appropriate to the needs of the Governing Body.

If you would like to stand for election, or to nominate someone else, please complete the attached form and return it to the school office by Friday 6th December 2019.

  1. Each person nominated must be proposed and seconded by parents/carers who have a child at the school
  2. Anyone standing for election is invited to provide, with their nomination, a short personal statement (maximum of 100 words). The statement should only include brief biographical information, your reasons for wanting to be a Parent Governor and the contribution you believe you can make to the Governing Body
  3. Because appointments as a school Governor will give access to children, there is a requirement for all Governors to undertake an Enhanced DBS check. The school will pay for this cost

In terms of commitment, you will be asked to attend one evening meeting of the Governing Body once per term and to work on a committee of governors, also once per term.

If there is more than one candidate, an election will need to be held but this is a straightforward process in which the short paragraph on the reply slip will be sent to all parents along with a voting paper for them to make their choices.

Should there be only one candidate, then this person will automatically become our Parent Governor.

Please return this slip to the school by Friday 6th December 2019

I wish to stand as a candidate for election as Parent Governor at Woodhill Primary School.
